Check-in

Check-in is managed by your airline, so please follow the instructions provided with your booking.

Depending on your airline and fare type, you may be able to check in online, through your airline’s app, or in person at the airline check-in counter at the airport.

Regional domestic flights: Arrive at least 60 minutes before departure.

Domestic jet flights: Arrive at least 90 minutes before departure, as you will need to clear security screening.

International flights: Arrive at least 2 hours before departure, as you will need to complete check-in, security screening, and border processing.

Allow extra time if you need to park, return a rental car, check in bags, travel with children, need assistance, or would like time for food, coffee, or the bathroom before your flight.

Airline check-in and bag-drop closing times vary, so please follow the instructions provided by your airline.

Packing Guidance

Before you travel, check what can go in your carry-on bag, what should be packed in checked luggage, and what cannot travel.

For domestic flights, there are no limits on powders, liquids, aerosols, and gels. For international flights, restrictions apply to powders, liquids, aerosols, and gels in carry-on luggage. This includes drinks, hot beverages, creams, gels, aerosols, pastes, and some powders.

As a general guide for international flights:

• liquids, aerosols, and gels must be in containers of 100ml or less and fit inside one resealable plastic bag
• inorganic powders must be 350ml or 350g or less
• larger quantities should be packed in checked luggage, unless an exemption applies

Spare or loose batteries, including power banks, wireless earbud cases, and power tool or drone batteries, must not be packed in checked luggage. These can usually travel in carry-on luggage, but they must be protected from short circuiting.

Some items, including sharp objects, tools, sporting equipment, and certain cultural items, may not be allowed in carry-on luggage and may need to be checked in.

Aviation Security officers have the final say at screening. Please check the Aviation Security Service website before you pack, especially if you are carrying restricted items, batteries, medicines, baby food, or anything unusual.

Hidden Disabilities

Airports are busy environments and for some people this can be a stressful experience, especially if you or someone with you has a disability which is not visible. It is our job to make your time at Dunedin Airport as enjoyable as possible and take any stress away.

The Hidden Disability Sunflower is a symbol used globally to give you or your loved ones with disabilities a way to discreetly indicate a non-obvious disability and that additional support, time, or understanding may be needed.

At Dunedin Airport, our staff are trained to recognise the sunflower lanyard and provide you with the assistance you may need at any point in your journey. There is no cost for the lanyard just all part of our role of providing a great Customer Experience.

Collecting a sunflower lanyard at Dunedin Airport:

• When you arrive at Dunedin Airport make your way to the Airport Information Desk located on the ground floor of the terminal.
• Ask the Dunedin Airport Customer Experience staff member at the desk for a sunflower lanyard. Easy as that. Either you or someone travelling with you can wear the lanyard – it’s your call.

The lanyard doesn't provide a personal staff escort through the airport process. If you require this level of assistance or wheelchair assistance, your airline is best placed to help you. Be sure to contact your airline ahead of time to make them aware of your assistance requirements.

Family Facilities

Baby changing facilities are available in the international and domestic departure lounges, in international arrivals before Customs processing, and on Level 1 in the Parents’ Room. View the terminal map.

Dunedin Airport is a breastfeeding friendly business, and breastfeeding is welcome anywhere in the terminal.

For parents and caregivers who would prefer a private space, the Parents’ Room on Level 1 offers baby changing facilities, a quiet place to breastfeed or bottle-feed, and a microwave for preparing formula or toddler food.

You are also welcome to ask our Customer Experience team at the Information Counter if you need help finding the nearest facilities.

High-value Items

Any valuable identity documents are handed to the NZ Police on the day they are found. This includes passports, cash, wallets, and high-value jewellery.

Bag Storage

Dunedin Airport offers a service in which luggage is stored for a daily fee.  The luggage will need to be assessed and appropriate customer details taken before storage can take place. The cost of storage is $5 per day per piece of luggage. This can be pre-paid or paid upon collection.

Before the bags can be accepted, they will need to be screened by Aviation Security through the out of gauge (oversize) belt. If Aviation Security is not present, we cannot accept the bag. Even if the luggage is cleared, storage will be at the discretion of airport staff.

Once the necessary details have been taken then the luggage can be stored in the storeroom under the stairs on the ground floor. Bikes and other oversized items can be stored in the old transformer room.

Key Drop Service

Let us look after your car keys safely while you travel. Complete a key-drop envelope and pop it in our secure key box at the desk. Only $5 for holiday peace of mind.

Showers

Feel like freshening up?  We have showers available at the Airport and for a $10 fee we supply a towel, shampoo and soap.  Please see one of our Customer Services team at the Information Desk to find out where the showers are located.
