Dunedin International Airport Limited (DIAL) is a publicly unlisted company, established under the Airport Authorities Act 1966, and incorporated in 1988.
The two equal shareholders are the Crown and Dunedin City Holdings Ltd, which is owned by Dunedin City Council. They took over the airport’s assets from the Dunedin Airport Authority in 1989. In 1999, the airport’s name was changed to Dunedin International Airport Limited.
DIAL is a highly diversified operation with multiple sources of income. It contributes an estimated 1.5% of the region’s GDP and, directly and indirectly, provides employment for more than 250 people.
CEO, Richard Roberts, is originally from Barnsley in Yorkshire, England. After achieving a First Class Honours Degree in Engineering with Business Studies at Sheffield Hallam University, he then went on to work as a Project Engineer in many varied engineering projects around the UK. Richard moved to New Zealand in1999 where he spent his first 3 years working in project management, the most notable project being the Meridian Mall Development in Dunedin and the redevelopment of the Hanmer Springs Thermal Reserve. Richard came to the Airport as General Manager of Infrastructure and Service Delivery before being appointed as CEO in November 2014.
General Manager Commercial
General Manager Commercial, Chris Cope, is a qualified chartered accountant and graduate of Otago University having obtained a bachelor of Commerce and Diploma for Graduates.
Originally from Dunedin Chris joined the Dunedin International Airport Limited in 2016. With a strong financial accounting background, Chris has previously held roles as an Associate Director in the Deloitte Assurance team, and, during six years in the United Kingdom, as Group Financial and Management Accountant for a large international law firm based out of London.
general Manager infrastructure & service delivery
GM Infrastructure & Service Delivery, Daniel Debono joined Dunedin Airport in 2015. Originally from Dunedin, Daniel has served in several aviation management roles in New Zealand including 6 years as the Operations Manager for Queenstown Airport and more recently as the Manager Airfield & Airport Fire Service for Wellington Airport. Daniel is a graduate of Massey University, completing a Bachelor of Aviation Management.
General MANAGER marketing and communications
General Manager Marketing and Communications, Megan Crawford, joined Dunedin Airport in 2013. Megan returned to Dunedin in 2007 after living in London where she had been Marketing Manager for GE Consumer Finance UK. Prior to joining Dunedin Airport she was Manager of Executive Education at the University of Otago. Megan is a graduate of the University of Otago, completing a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Arts.

The company’s principal activity is the operation of Dunedin International Airport. Land adjacent to the airport, held for possible expansion, is dairy farmed in partnership with a sharemilker. A small residential housing estate adjacent to the airport provides rental income.
TOTAL PASSENGER NUMBERS at 861,982, compare to 853,097 last year, an increase of 1%.
DOMESTIC PASSENGER NUMBERS at 809,267, compare to 788,881 last year, an increase of 2.6%.
INTERNATIONAL PASSENGER NUMBERS at 52,715 compare to 64,216, a decrease of 17.9% on 2014.
TOTAL REVENUE is $12,722,034, a 1% increase on 2014.
SHAREHOLDERS’ FUNDS have increased by 1.2% to $45,919,692.
OPERATING SURPLUS AFTER TAX of $1,705,823 compared to $1,848,711 in 2014.
NON-AERONAUTICAL INCOME, at 64.5% of total revenue, compares to last year’s figure of 64.6%.
A DIVIDEND of $1,280,000 (14.5c per share) was declared and paid during the year.

Review of Airport Charges
Dunedin Airport is required under the Airport Authorities Act 1966 to consult with its substantial customers prior to changing prices for certain services. This process has been completed and we have made our pricing decision under the Act for our landing and terminal charges for the 2012 - 2016 pricing period. These prices are effective from 1 December 2011.
Pricing Proposal Consultation Document
This document, together with the accompanying information, contains DIAL's proposed charges for landing at our airport and for the use of our passenger terminal for the 1 October 2011 to 30 June 2016 pricing period. This will be the first increase in our terminal and landing charges since 2001.
